The Cathance River flows into Merrymeeting Bay along with five other rivers – the Kennebec, Androscoggin, Eastern, Muddy, and Abagadasset.
Merrymeeting Bay is a rare natural feature that formed at the convergence of these six rivers – one of only a few inland, tidal, freshwater deltas in the world.
Merrymeeting Bay is part of the Kennebec Estuary system – an area recognized by the state of Maine as an area of statewide ecological significance. The area is extremely productive, providing high quality habitat for waterfowl, fish, birds and more.
