Maine Big Night: From One Salamander to a Statewide Movement
February 28 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Cathance River Education Alliance and Brunswick-Topsham Land Trust are partnering to give you a closer look at how a homegrown citizen science project got started to protect our amphibian friends, and perhaps inspire you to participate in it this spring. Maine Big Night is a community science project that helps frogs and salamanders safely complete their annual spring migrations while collecting vital data on their populations. The project has grown immensely every year, and is now in the process of collaborating with the state to determine where road systems could be altered to better accommodate our wildlife. Follow the project from its humble beginnings to the present, including surprising results found along the way. Tune in to learn how you can participate and get up close and personal with some frogs and salamanders!
Greg LeClair is the founder and coordinator of Maine Big Night and a PhD student at the University of Maine. Greg grew up in central Maine with a love for wildlife from his early days. He has followed his passions into coordinating community science work, developing forensic tools to protect wildlife from poaching, and undertaking research for conserving our rarest species.
