Ed Webster: Mount Washington, an Illustrated History
June 28, 2018 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Though this is not a CREA-sponsored event, Ed has a long history with CREA, and has shared his Mt. Everest experiences in past CREA programs. From the Cryer:
Ed Webster has documented every way Mt. Washington has been used for recreation by digitizing his unique collection of early artwork, stereophotographs, and pictures taken by 1920s and ‘30s rock and ice climbers in Huntington Ravine. Other subject matter covered includes the 1828 Willey Family landslide and disaster, the growth of North Conway, the grand hotels, the railroads, and White Mountain tourism in general. The little-known stories and anecdotes Webster has unearthed fully compliment the show.
Ed is one of America’s best-known rock climbers, writers and Himalayan mountaineers. He has achieved several world-famous climbs, most notably his first ascent of a new route up Mt. Everest’s remote, highly-dangerous Kangshung East Face in Tibet as part of an international 4-man team in 1988.
With the support of Topsham Dental Arts, this lecture is free to the public. Come and share an enjoyable, educational lecture about every New Englanders’ favorite mountain: Mt. Washington.
